I’m sure you have all seen the ads promoting the ability to work from home and make tons of money using the internet. A couple years ago, it was fairly simple to throw up a website, put some ads on there, do a little promotion and blam!, money began rolling in. Those days are over but sites promising to make you money with ease are growing faster than ever.
I got caught in one of these scams a little over two years ago. I had read a great write up that motivated the crap out of me and I was ready to head to the promise land of internet riches. I subscribed to a program that would do the research on “upcoming” niches and send out a bunch of info along with website templates to put up a site for that niche. As the program evolved the creator offered a new package. For a slightly higher cost, they would do all the work and then split the profits each month. I know it sounds to good to be true! Well, I was blinded by everything I had read and jumped on board. The first month I received a check for a little less than my monthly membership. The second month I made money! That is where it all went downhill. I continued to pay month after month, but payments never arrived. Excuse after excuse filled my inbox along with the earnings for the month, but no deposits into my paypal account. Since I had received checks the first two months, I hung in there. Huge mistake! I never again received a payment and all the membership fees I paid after that second month were lost. It was stupid of me to think I could make money for nothing, but I did. I have learned from this and hope that anyone thinking about one of these scams will see my mistake and not repeat it. I can’t say all of them out there are bad, because I haven’t tried them all, but I would be willing to bet a majority of them will leave you with less money than when you started.
As I’ve began to start my own sites, I have learned that nothing beats hard work. Trial and error, helps me get better at what I do each and everyday. Something else I have learned is that gaining access to the knowledge and experience of people already doing it, is invaluable. I was recently turned on to a forum of people who are running websites as a form of part-time income. The original price to join was $67 a month. If you read the rest of my site, I am trying to budget and get my financial life under control. I was not bringing in enough money at the time from my internet businesses to warrant spending an additional $67 dollars a month. I passed on the offer and continued to research and learn on my own. A few months later I was offered a special for the same forum. This time it was $10 a month. I figured I could sacrifice the ten bucks in order to give it a trial run. I was very impressed and have been a member ever since. The forum is great for beginners all the way up to more advanced internet entrepreneurs.
If you are, or are looking to get involved in online business and marketing I highly suggest you learn from people who are already doing it and will show you the pitfalls to avoid. Of course you will always run into bumps along the road, but why hit the same ones others have already hit? I am still a member of the internet business forum I mentioned above and have been authorized to pass on the $10 a month price to my readers. This is not an offer that I can post publicly, since it is a special offer. Send me an email or leave a comment if you are interested and I’ll send you the link to check it out.
Don’t just spend time learning from your mistakes, learn from others mistakes as well!
