If I Don’t Have the Money, I Don’t Need It
This is the first post I have actually written from my phone. I usually wait until I am in front of my computer to update my blog, but what I just heard was to good to pass up.
On my lunch break I had a check I needed to deposit into my Washington Mutual account. As I was approaching the ATM a customer leaving alerted me that the machines were acting up and that I might want to go inside. I appreciated his advice and headed inside. There was a bit of a line, but nothing unbearable.
As I sat at the teller window waiting for him to enter my info into the computer I was listening to a conversation going on at the window to my left. The gentleman who I assume was the bank manager had come over to either approve or review something the teller had done. As the manager looked up from the computer he said “would you like to apply for a Washington Mutual credit card”? The gentleman who was being helped replied “I have a debit card and that’s all I need”. The customer looked like a normal guy who may have been in construction or similar line of work judging from his attire and boots. The teller responder “You qualify for a credit card are you sure”? The customer responded with a line that prompted me to write this post. “If I don’t have the money, I don’t need it“. What a great reply! Where was this guy when I was being hounded back in college to apply for credit cards on campus? Where was this guy when I was making purchases that I would end up paying for, for years? Where was this guy when I was to naive about credit to remove the cards from my wallet? Take it from me, follow this customer’s advice. I have no idea what his financial situation is, but I assume it is better than those of us who took on credit without knowing exactly how dangerous it could be.
Fingers are numb…..
