How To Get Rid of a Cold

Now that I am no longer in school, when I get sick I can afford to take some time off of work to get better. However, I do remember my College days and how unlucky I was with getting sick. At the time I lived in a four-plex that had some mold issues. While living there I was sick more often than I ever was before.

I always seemed to get sick during the most important times of the school year. It seems like it was always around midterms or finals. Not only did my cold affect my ability to concentrate inside the classroom, it also affected my ability to study and perform on my tests. I would often load up on cold medicine and try to battle through it. Even with the medicine, the pressure of the test would always make me so uncomfortable while being sick, that I could hardly sit in the class without sweating, coughing and just hoping class would be over. It got to the point where I was so miserable it almost didn’t matter how poorly I did on the test.

Did I have to go through that? Is there something out there that others knew that I didn’t? Perhaps some medicine that worked well enough to make them feel comfortable enough while studying and test taking that they were not set back by their sickness.

Perhaps there was a way to prevent or quickly get rid of a cold at the first signs of symptoms. Currently, when I start to feel the symptoms coming on I immediately reach for the Airborne. It seems to work well for me sometimes and the symptoms I am feeling never develop into a full blown cold. Other times, I’m not so lucky and I still end up with an annoying cold. I have also seen the product Zircam which is supposed to lessen the duration of a persons cold. I have used it before, but it’s hard to say how long the cold was going to last, so I’m not sure if it worked or not.

Do you have something that works for you? Maybe some sort of family tradition passed down to you that helps you cope with a cold. If you’ve ever had to sit in class miserable due to a cold, but have a technique that helps, go ahead and share it here. All of us that have been through it thank you!
