Reading at the Bookstore

Lately it seems like I have this unquenchable thirst for knowledge. It’s amazing how it seems like I don’t have enough time to read everything I want to read. When I was in school, you almost had to tie me down to read a book. I was one of those students who would much rather skim, or use CliffNotes than read the actual book. However, times have changed. I don’t know if it is because I am older, wiser or maybe both. I do realize one thing though, I can’t seem to get enough out of books!

My latest addiction is the bookstore. I can’t seem to enter one without spending at least two hours there. Each isle is like a new beginning to me. There are books on every subject imaginable and some you may not want to imagine. I feel that by just doing enough to get by in school, I missed out on so much knowledge and information. I am not sure if I am trying to learn all the information I think I missed, or have just come to realize how interested I am in learning new things.

Although I do browse many books at Borders, I do not just use it as a library. I buy quite a few books, usually about two a month. Since I am currently trying to pay down some credit card debt I have, get my budget under control and save money, these purchases may soon be replaced by library check outs. I do use Amazon from time to time, since the prices seem to be better. However, there is something about having the book in my hand and being able to skim through it, that often compels me to buy it right then and there, rather than wait for it to be shipped.

Next time you have some free time. Take a trip to your local bookstore. Walk around and take in what you see. Wander from section to section, until a topic sparks your interest. Browse the titles on the shelf, and grab something that interests you. Read the back cover and a few pages. If it doesn’t seem like your cup of tea, put it back and grab another. I’m sure eventually you’ll find a book you like and be glad you did. Reading keeps the mind fresh. If you aren’t currently in the habit of reading a book, give it a try. Set a goal to read one book this month. I think you’ll enjoy the experience. Take it from me, I’ve gone from dreading opening a book, to spending two hours at a time in the bookstore.
