AceReader Speed Reading Software Review

One of the most annoying parts of studying in school was the fact that it seemed like I had to constantly reread the material I was studying.  I would read a couple of pages and have no idea what I just read.  I would then have to go back and read the material I just went through a second time.  Do you have the same issues?

There are a couple of reasons why we read slowly and why we don’t comprehend what we read.  The first is sub vocalization.  When we were taught to read, we were taught to read aloud.  When reading aloud you are forced to pronounce every word.  You can only read as fast as you can pronounce the words.  By the time we began to have silent reading time in school, we were still pronouncing every word, but we were doing it silently in our head.

As long as you continue to sub-vocalize your reading speed will hover around your speaking speed which usually ranges in the area of 150 to 220 words per minute.  There are trained speed readers who are reading well over 1,000 words per minute.  With some training you could easily triple your current reading speed!

Besides getting through a book or text faster you may be wondering what the other benefits are.  Well, when you read at a slower pace you get tired easier and often lose focus on the subject matter or put the book down all together only to continue it at another time.  Imagine watching a movie, but instead of watching it in one or two sittings, you break it up over several weeks.  It is quite possible that by the time you watch the last part of the movie you have forgotten what happened the first couple times you sat down to watch it.  This is the same thing that happens when you are a slow reader.  By the time you get to the end of the book weeks after you started it, you have forgotten what happened at the beginning.

Becoming a trained speed reader increases your comprehension.  By getting through the material faster, you tend to keep interested in the subject matter and read books in larger chunks.  By finishing books in one or two sittings as compared to weeks when you weren’t a speed reader, you are greatly increasing your comprehension of the subject matter.

You may be wondering what happens if I still don’t comprehend everything I just read while speed reading.  Well read it again!  That’s the beauty of speed reading and speed reading comprehension.  You can now read the same book 3 times in the amount of time it used to take you to read it once!  Although your comprehension will be improved with one reading using your speed reading techniques, you can always read the book twice to make sure you are comfortable with the material.

There are many books in your local library or bookstore that offer speed reading techniques.  These books may vary in techniques they use to improve your speed reading, but many of the speed reading courses focus on the same points.  They eliminate sub vocalization.  This allows you to read at a much faster pace than you read when vocalizing every word.  Second, they eliminate regression.  Regression, is the act of going back and rereading something you just passed by, whether it be a word, sentence or paragraph.  Third, they attempt to reduce your eye fixation.  Eye fixation is the amount of time spent focusing on a specific spot.  Fourth, they look to expand your eye fixation zone.  By doing this you can read a wider chunk of text while your eyes are focused on a single point.  Finally they attempt to increase your re-fixation speed.  This is the speed at which your eyes reposition themselves to a new chunk of text.

As you can see there are a number of changes that need to be made to increase your speed reading and comprehension.  Reading a speed reading book at your normal pace and going through these speed reading techniques can become boring and cause you to lose interest.

This is where AceReader comes in.  AceReader is a speed reading software designed to help you read faster and improve comprehension.  AceReader provides various levels and self paced training courses which provide variety and keep you from losing interest in your quest to become a faster reader.
